Coin vs. Paper

Now I've been rolling a lot.

Coins you potheads!

Since my balance is below the 1k mark and I'm trying not to hyperventilate.

Anyhow, I have come across those lovely Dollar coins. Both the Susan B Anthony and the Gold ones with who was it Sacajaweia? photo courtesy of the US Government!

Now I have no problem using coins. The Aussies do it. Once you get used to throwing a $2 little coin at them, it gets easier. Of course their paper money is cool looking.....

Anyway, apparently not too many people like these coins let me tell you. I'm waiting for the merchant who tells me they don't take them. I don't need them. They are money. Spends the same. I don't 'collect' them. I am trying not to collect anything anymore because it's all a bitch to move and I just don't want all this STUFF taking up space but the dust I have seems to collect no matter what I do. So I told my niece to pack some for our trip. Glad I did because I didn't have enough bills to get into this museum. So I ran out to the truck and grabbed some dollar coins. The lady looked perplexed. I think she thought it was a quarter (the balance was 75 cents and I gave her four bills before I ran out there, then handed her one coin). Then she asked me if I was collecting them. Well if I was, would I be USING them? I didn't say that, but asked if she was, because I had a couple more I could give her and she give me the bills. No she said. I guess she didn't really want it because she asked if I wanted to use quarters. "Well, if I had quarters I would have given them to you!" That was the end of that discussion.

(This was my niece on the truck ride to a state park we were going to hike in. I couldn't resist)

Then today at the grocery store the lady in front of me handed the guy a few of the dollar coins. He looked perplexed as well. At least he had the honesty to say that nobody wanted them, including him because he can't get rid of them. She said that was why she was giving them to him. FUnny. But at least he took them.

can't remember where I snagged this cartoon, but if you want me to remove it.......
Now really I don't care. But what in the world was the purpose of the dollar coins anyway? To eventually stop killing trees to make money? Or I suppose they recycle old money to make new money? Doubt it but maybe. So, I will be using these coins, just like I use dollars. Someone pitches a fit I'm so going to pop them one. I don't think there's anything wrong with coins myself. Apparently a lot of people have a problem with it.

Coins last longer than paper money.

I wouldn't go back to our $1 and $2 bills for anything. I like the Loonie and the Toonie we have up here.

I like the coins, especially the new ones with the presidents on them. Betcha didn't even know about those, eh!?

I only use them on the train and in vending machines. Otherwise, I don't get them in change unless I ask.

Mostly, the cashiers don't like them because they don't have a drawer for them. pennies-nickels-dimes-quarters. No slot for the dollars, just the paper ones.

I think the government should either shit or get off the pot when it comes to (1) the nearly worthless penny and (2) the almost worthless dollar bill. Bring back the $2 bill, make the coins and stop with the stupid pennies.

Eons ago, they got rid of half-dimes, half-pennies and countless other worthless denominations. It's time to shitcan the penny and dollar bill.

But then, what will I do at the strip clubs?

:)
