I meditate. I burn candles. I drink green tea...............and still I want to smack someone.

People are People

no matter where in the world they live. So profound right? Yea whatever.

But I was browsing today, because I like to try to find different things, expand my mind, of course on the internet I read this shit with trepidation because I know the majority of what I read is mostly likely false. So I take it with a grain of salt. Until I confirm such things via journals and publications that have some higher standing in the community, and maybe even the news around the world.

Having studied shitloads of art history courses throughout my education, the one that I really loved was the Ethnographic Art History course. I guess the only way to describe it is in terms of tribal art. But 'tribal' is such an anglo word, almost demeaning to the people of various countries who were there before well the white folk decided they wanted the lands. Tribes in Africa, Australia, Oceania, Asia, etc. And after that course, I went to Australia, and actually had contact with 'aboriginal' people from that land before the settlers pushed them out of their homes and land. I met them in art galleries, on the streets of the cities, and in the outback. Learning about the traditions of many cultures just fascinates me. I would have loved to have taken the Egyptian Art History course, they have their own entire course, but I'm glad I took this Ethno art class instead. I learned about peoples who aren't even here anymore, and it is sad if I think about it. No one here left, except their art, maybe even their tools or utensils or furnishings. Although, I do have a problem calling some things art, because when I think of "art" I think of prettiness, and much of a tribe's "art" was not used for prettiness, but had a purpose and function and usually was used in some sort of ceremony or had a religious nature to it. So I always hesitated at calling these works we studied "art". I still do. I do like to find out what's going on over on the other side of the world and came across this man and his land. I certainly hope that people don't bully him off his land. And I cannot believe they posted that photo of him. I really hate when the media put up the dramatics! You cannot tell me he wanted that photograph of himself up there?? Although I am surprised he allowed his photo taken. I could not take any when I was in the outback, the few I asked would not give me permission. But anyway I'm digressing.

So, I was browsing some stuff on other nations, and came across news about how the United Arab Emirates are trying to throw out the Hadzabe tribe in Tanzania so they can hunt on their land. That's just lovely. Kicking people off their land so someone else can eradicate animals, only to kick someone else off their lands when they run out of animals to kill. Apparently these people are one of the few left who are actually hunter-gatherers (ya know, like in prehistoric times, what our ancestors used to do before microwaves and supermarkets??). The native Australians are another group of hunter-gatherers left, and I hope they don't lose their culture, because it is truly fascinating, and should not be left to die out. Can learn a lot from them.

Anyway, what is the fascination with hunting? I am sorry. But I do not want this gigantic animal head poking out from a wall when I walk through a room. I can understand if these people were eating it, but they aren't. I've been in a few homes with animals everywhere, and it's just fucking creepy. I think I heard banjos playing in the background......I know they used to hunt back in the Teddy Roosevelt days. But I didn't know that people still like to do this so much.

You know, you can actually hunt on the private Hawaiian island of Ni'ihau on a safari of your own? Well they only have sheep or boar, but still.

I don't hunt. I am not against hunting if you were using that as your source of food. But like several people I know have said, why go to all the trouble to hunt and kill it if you can get it in the grocery store? I don't see the sport in it. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I could see it. I could see it a lot more if we could go out and hunt idiot people. I could see the sport in that.

Ok I digress and that was an awful thought wasn't it?

But I guess with lots of money, comes the ability to do whatever you wanted. I think there's a reason I don't have lots of money. Because I think, if I were to have lots of money, I could do what I wanted. And I think the Powers That Be know that what I have in mind isn't so ethical.....
