Out of Order
Yea this is old news. Not sure if I even wrote that I'm GOING to Australia but here's the post that it's in. I have stuff in draft and have yet to post since a lot of time I can't access the internet then I forget about em.
Well, I’m GOIN TO
I can’t tell you how excited I am about that. it’s almost where I feel that I seem to be the only one that’s this excited, I mean the people I’m telling are like ‘oh yea? That’s great.’ Well I know I’m sensitive right now hehe. Anyway, there’s so much I want to do in addition to my classes and I only have TWO WEEKS to do it all in. PLUS omg I need to get into some kind of shape with all the walking we will be doing. O man, so much to do……I’m already thinking of the next adventure I want to take, and that’s a safari…….
I’ve been on The Blue Planet kick. I recently watched a couple of the episodes and it’s just amazing. The photography alone is awesome. I thought about taking film as a minor but then again that would be more studio classes (and I don’t’ think I could come up with film ideas haha) and I am not sure I would get enough knowledge taking it as a minor. Something to work on later perhaps. I also love the music they choose for portions of the show. I mean they ALWAYS choose a more somber type of music when sharks are on screen. Upbeat, fast music is always used for those schools of fish moving all over the place. One of the shows deals with the ocean. Now being here at the beach I see the ocean a lot. And sometimes I get to thinking really deep on the ocean. Yea, deep get it haha. Anyway, there is soooooo much we don’t even know about the ocean, so many more animals living there than on land. Amazing to me. I love learning, and I love these documentaries. IMAX is awesome to watch documentary type films. The film is so much bigger, just feel like I am inside the movie. But anyway, I only watched these on DVD, but now I know a little more about the oceans and the arctic seas. I mean to think about some of these things…….well only word I can come up with again is………AMAZING
Things I didn’t know:
- The largest animal, the blue whale, in the ocean (even the world) eats the smallest in the ocean. Damn that’s a lot of krill for a whale
- Some of its veins are so big a person could swim through them
- Phytoplankton is the basis of all life in the ocean. Ok well I knew this but needed a reminder
- The creatures in the black depths of the ocean are so weird looking (yea had to interject my own opinion in here). Man sure shows you what a lack of sun will do to ya!
- Hey the moon has a monthly cycle too! It even waxes! I knew there was another reason I loved the moon. No wonder weird things happen once a month. Actually between the full and new moon (first or last quarter) the ocean turtles come up to the beach to lay eggs (we had several loggerhead turtle nests here at Tybee, I haven’t seen them actually come up, wish I had, I want to try to see them next year).
- Watching male herring pour their sperm over fish eggs is one of those events I really didn’t need to witness
- I saw how killer whales got their names. They are wasteful like humans, taking so long to kill a whale calf and hardly eating any of it. I think they kill not only for food but for killing’s sake……Pour whale momma, fighting to keep her calf alive when a pod of killer whales push their way between momma and baby to isolate the calf. Then they drown it and momma can’t do much.
- Belugas can only hold their breath under water for a maximum of 20 minutes. Damn I’m lucky if I can hold mine for a minute.
- Arctic foxes are just so cute. they only hunt for themselves in the summer. Otherwise they rely on polar bear leftovers.
- Those baby harp seals are even cuter than arctic foxes.
- Polar bears can go five months without eating. Wow would I be skinny.
- It amazes me that anything can live/swim in the frigid waters of the arctic. Those walruses are just so fat. And here I complain about my blubber. I think if I was a walrus I’d be a hottie. Hey and those walruses can suck a clam out of its shell……now that’s impressive.
- I would love to see the aurora borealis in person.
- Emperor penguins can live in minus 50 degree weather. Omg more power to them. The arctic really is the frozen desert. I’m just in awe of the extremes we have in this world, from the hottest desert to the coldest, and everything in between. To just look out across a frozen sea and see nothing but white. I’ll stick to the DVD hehe.
- There are so many types of seals, whales and other creatures in the oceans that I haven’t heard of that I’m going to have to do some research.
I find it interesting how humans have similar habits to animals in the wild. For instance, we are herded like cows at amusement parks. We hover around tragic events like flies attracted to shit, sugar or death. We stand in lines at the grocery store and shuffle along like penguins.
Some days I wish I could go into the ocean without having to worry about breathing. I mean do you think amphibians have the best of both worlds, being able to live on land and in water? Then again they can’t do either for long periods of time. Like the birds, being able to fly, it would be so cool if I could swim like the fishes.
Nature just brings a tear to my eye. Of course I’m more sensitive at this time but still…
